In the three weeks since you’ve heard from me we’ve been visiting friends and family while we make our way down the West Coast of the United States. The first week, as you know, we were visiting friends in Springfield, Oregon which is about 11 miles from Eugene. It was nice having that time with them and their family and was a great way to celebrate three years of the adventure!
The second week we went to San Pedro, California which is near Los Angeles, to visit Dave’s Aunt and Uncle. On the weekend the weather was beautiful so we went to Hermosa Beach and walked The Strand, which is the boardwalk along the beach, and had lunch. Then on Monday the beautiful weather continued so we rented an E-Boat and cruised around the canals of Long Beach. We brought dinner and had a wonderful time. We filled the rest of our week being invited to dinner with their friends, wandering around Downtown San Pedro and checking out the vendors and enjoying music on First Thursday, and overall just enjoying each other’s company. We were so grateful for that time since we missed each other when we came through last October. It was priceless.
Last week we made our way back to Pacifica, California, which is just outside of San Francisco, to visit our good friends there. It worked out well for us to come over Labor Day weekend so we were able to take advantage of them having a day off! Saturday after we arrived we had a nice lunch at Rossotti’s Alpine Inn before we got supplies for the week. Sunday we took a little road trip to Santa Cruz so the men could play disc golf at The DeLaveaga Disc Golf Club and the women could hike along and take in the beautiful views. The lovely day ended with a delicious dinner at Hula’s Island Grill. On Labor Day we celebrated by going to Montara State Beach and relaxing. It was a wonderful rest of the week exploring the neighborhood of Pacifica, saw several whales on Wednesday, and visiting San Mateo on Thursday. So grateful, again, for the chance to have that quality time with good people.
On Saturday we made our way to San Diego, California for two weeks before we go to Mexico City on the 26th. I have been to San Diego once back in High School and Dave has never been so we’re excited to be here for a couple weeks so that we can properly explore the city we’ve heard so many good things about. Saturday the only thing we accomplished after arriving was grocery shopping which is good because then we could just focus on exploring yesterday. We walked to Ocean Beach from our Air Bnb and took in the beachy vibe of the neighborhood. We enjoyed some pizza and beer at Pizza Port and then watched some of the Viking vs Packer football game. I was raised a Minnesota Viking fan and Dave was raised a Wisconsin Packer fan so even though we live in a divided household we manage to get along. 😉 I find it is better if I don’t watch, especially when they are playing each other, so I popped into some shops after halftime and it worked! The Vikings finally pulled ahead with only 6:37 left in the fourth quarter to win! Sorry Dave. After the game we explored a little bit of Old Town San Diego “Where California Began” before we called it a day.
We’ve received several good recommendations for the next couple weeks. We hope to visit the USS Midway Museum, especially since Dave’s uncle who we visited in San Pedro worked on it while he was in the service during Vietnam. We’ve also been told to visit Torrey Pine State Park and Beach, Balboa Park, La Jolla and Coronado Island. As well as the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and we hope to explore the Spanish Art Village. The Padres are in town next weekend as well so I’m sure there will be no shortage of things to fill our time.
We are grateful for the time that we have had with friends and family the past three weeks and it is nice to have some “us” time again. We hope that this finds you well and wherever you are we are sending you a Universe of love!
